Board of Directors Minutes…

The Board of Directors met on September 28, 2006 and October 10, 2006 to discuss Club Officers for Year 2007.  Jim Whitaker was elected President for 2007 with Dick McLeod as Vice President, Mike Anderson as Secretary and Bruce Fujikawa as Treasurer.  Congratulations to all!  Committees and assignments will be discussed and made at the next Board Meeting.

A Message from Jim Whitaker…

Fall is upon us, with warm pleasant days and cool evenings. The plugged greens are well on the way to recovery creating truer putting, but lessening excuses for missing putts.  By now you probably know the results of the election for Members to the Board of Directors.   If not the 2007 Board of Directors is listed elsewhere in the Newsletter or on our Website. This Board also convened at a Special Meeting to elect officers for next year and the results are also listed elsewhere in the Newsletter

.

Starting Monday, October 16th there will be Drop Areas at holes No 4, 11, 12 and 17, which must be used if a Tee Shot lands in the Hazard. The new rule is explained under “Modification of Local Rules” on the Web Site and will also be stated at the Tees and the Drop Areas for these holes. The Drop Areas will be designated with a sign where the player is to drop a second ball within 2 club lengths no nearer the hole. The approximate yardage to the center of the green will be listed on the sign at the Drop Area.   The plan is to use this arrangement for the remaining of this year. The Board strongly urges you to send your comments (especially regarding the location of the Drop Areas) to the Club’s email address or convey your opinion to any Member of the Board. The email address is shorelinesenior@yahoo.com.

Cart Path Only…

As we approach the rainy season, we will continue the practice of not calculating PF numbers whenever carts are restricted to “Cart Path Only.”  So those of you who typically ride carts, there will be no effect on a foursome’s PF number if you cannot play because of wet conditions.  Also, PF numbers will not be calculated when fewer than 70 golfers have played on any given Monday.  Hit them long and straight and enjoy each round of golf.

NBC Weather Station

NBC Weatherman John Farley recently approached Shoreline staff regarding the possibility of installing a weather station in the park.  NBC11 is in the process of installing a network of 35 weather stations throughout the Bay Area.  Some of the locations that will be hosting similar weather stations include PIER 39 in San Francisco, Children's Discovery Museum in San Jose, Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Marine World in Vallejo, Buck Institute in Novato, Lake Elizabeth in Fremont, Charles Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, Vasona County Park in Los Gatos, Stanford University, Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay, Cal State East Bay in Hayward, the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, Mondavi Winery in Oakville, Santa Clara University, and Bonfante Gardens in Gilroy, among others.  The goal is to install the weather stations at locations that are both unique to the Bay Area, and sufficiently spread out so that many climates in the Bay Area can be captured.  NBC was particularly interested in Shoreline.

The apparatus is the equivalent of a small, personal use television antenna and will be mounted on the Irrigation Pump Station Building near the Golf Course maintenance shop.  It will be installed and maintained at no cost to the City.  The City will provide power and an internet connection.  The City will receive weather information and a mention of Shoreline Golf Links several times a week in the NBC newscasts. The weather information will be made available on NBC’s website to anyone that might like to check out the weather conditions at Shoreline before visiting.  NBC’s website will also be linked to the City’s web site.   An agreement with NBC for the weather station has been executed.  We hope to have the weather station operational by the end of November.

Renovation of the 18th Green

Gecko Golf Construction of San Ramon has been awarded the bid for renovation work to the 18th Green.  Work began the middle of October.  The Shoreline Golf Links maintenance crews installed a temporary green.  We expect the renovation work to be completed by November with the green open in March.  Once the renovation work has been completed, the area directly behind the green, damaged as a result of an underground landfill gas fire late last year, will be seeded and cart path installed.  The area received several tons of dirt over the summer and was reshaped to provide better conditions for golfers, range patrons and pedestrians walking along the creek.

Work Begins on Shoreline Boulevard within the Park

A temporary road and a pathway have been installed for inbound traffic entering Shoreline at Mountain View.  The first phase of the job will include work on the original inbound lane.  Once that lane has been completed, traffic will use it to exit the park.  Work will then begin on the existing outbound land.  When the entire project is completed, the temporary road and pathway will be removed.  Weather permitting; the project should be competed by the beginning of 2007.

New Hours for Michaels

Effective Saturday, November 11, Michaels will be opening at 6:30 a.m. daily.  Coffee, beverages, fruit, muffins, donuts and other similar items will be available.  Very shortly, our first tee time will be at 7:00 a.m. so Michaels opening at 6:30 should be a nice convenience for the winter early morning golfers.
