Poppy Hills Tournament…

To those Members who have signed-up to play at Poppy Hills, your assigned tee time will be posted on the Club Bulletin Board at Shoreline and on our web site at the beginning of August.  Please check-in 30 minutes prior to tee time and be prepared to show your NCGA membership card.

Meet the Seniors, O.J. Pilcher…

Few people have done more to make the Shoreline Seniors Golf Club the successful golf program it is today, than O.J.Picher who has served on the board of governors in a variety of positions for almost ten years.  A native of Ogden, Utah, O.J. attended Weber College in that state and is also a graduate of San Francisco State University. He served in the Navy for two years.  For forty-seven years, he was employed by Southern Pacific railroad and was Director of Safety and Federal Regulations when he retired. He is a widower, has one child, and resides in San Carlos.  O.J. boasts two holes in one, both at Shoreline Golf Links.

Do You Want to Voice your Thoughts, Questions, and Suggestions to the NCGA?  Here’s Your Chance…

The NCGA will be hosting several Associate Club Forums in the near future.  They are interested in knowing our needs and how they can better serve Associate Clubs and their Members.  The Forum at Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club will be July 19, 2006 from 6:00-9:00PM.  The registration deadline for the Forum at Sharon Heights is July 12th.  The Forum at North Ridge Country Club will be August 23rd from 6:00-9:00Pm.  The registration deadline for the Forum at North Ridge is August 16th.  Register by accessing www.ncga.org and click on the Associate Club Forum heading.  There is no cost for these Forums and coffee and dessert will be provided.

The NCGA will be discussing a few new products and services offered by the NCGA aimed to better serve us. For example, there will be an overview of six new “Seminars to Go” that can help further educate us about golf and the NCGA. These seminars discuss critical topics such as Course Rating, Handicapping, Rules, Water Issues, and the NCGA Foundation. They will also introduce the new GHIN eClubhouse and demonstrate how valuable a tool this can be in assisting with club administration.

Share Your Thoughts…

Did you know that our web site at www.shorelineseniorsgolfclub.org has a link to post comments and suggestions?  Just click on comments and suggestions on the left side of the screen.  The Board of Directors not only encourages but also hopes that many will use this tool to make your voices heard.  By stating your ideas, we believe that it will lead to dialogue and decisions that better reflect the needs of the total Club.  So, please use this forum to express your opinions and thoughts.  As in the past, Club Board Members are open also to hearing from Members directly.

336 Years and Counting…

They don’t collect too many wins anymore, but the quartet of Gardner Gray (88), George Kimball (84), Art Brew (83), and George Fink (81) can lay claim to being one of the few octogenarian foursomes in the Shoreline Seniors Golf Club.  Gardner is a charter member and along with George Fink, walks all 18 holes.

From the Desk of Paula Bettencourt…

Irons Sale Set for July:  During the month of July, irons will be on sale for 20% off.  Please visit the Pro Shop or contact Greg Stemel, Retail and Tournament Manager, at 650-903-6133 for more information.

ADA Accessibility Single Rider Golf Cart:  The City is in the process of purchasing a single rider golf cart.  The model selected is the Solo Rider by Club Car.  The cart meets the Americans With Disabilities Act requirements and is expected to arrive at Shoreline Golf Links before the end of summer.  It will be available for rental by individuals possessing a California Disabled Placard or a written note from a physician stating the need for accommodation.  We are pleased to add the vehicle to the fleet and offer this service to our customers!

Early Closure - July 4th:  Due to the San Francisco Symphony Concert and Fireworks Display held annually at Shoreline Amphitheatre on July 4th, Shoreline Golf Links will close early.  The last tee time will be at 2:50 p.m.  The early closure is necessary in order to have sufficient time for the pyrotechnics set up and establishment of the safely fall zone.

Shoreline Sailing Lake Project:  The rebuilding of the pathway along the lakeshore is complete.  The majority of the work is now concentrated at the pump station location. The contractor is in the process of constructing the new pump station and connecting the new pipeline to the existing pump to maintain water supply from Charleston Slough to the lake. The existing pump was shutdown for two days to construct the bypass line.  The existing line was then abandoned. The bypass line will act as the lake supply line until the arrival of the new pump in December 2006. With the exception of the actual pump installation, all work on the project will be completed by September 2006.

From the Tee Time Committee…

As you have probably discovered by now, the July Tee Times are posted on our web site and on the bulletin board.  The July Tee Sheet also contains Participation Factor (PF) numbers.  If your number is higher than the four groups in front of you, you may request to be moved to one of the four tee times in front.  Please make sure that you request any changes by the 20th of the month.  To request a change, simply call Don Sutton or Hideo Hashimoto.

Also on our web site and on the bulletin board is the amount of time in minutes between foursomes (gap times).  In general, the pace of the total group of players is good since most of us play in 4:30 or less.  In spite of some pretty large gaps between some groups, the last group manages to play around 4:30-4:45, except for the week of June 19 when play seemed slower than usual for many of us.  So, if you are one of the groups that have gaps longer than 8-9 minutes, please try to maintain your position behind the group in front.  Thanks.

We wish everyone to enjoy his round of golf.  If all of us monitor our own play, it is our hope that all will experience a good time on the Course.

Assistance with Women’s Invitational Requested…

On August 15, 2006, a Women’s Invitational will be held at Shoreline Golf Links.  Joe DeBode and the women’s tournament are asking for assistance this year.  Six volunteers are needed to help load golf bags onto golf cars and three volunteers are needed to check scores on the scorecards after play.  Bag loaders are needed from about 6:30AM to 8:30AM and score checkers from about noon to 2PM.  If you are able to help, please call Joe at (650)-903-6135.
