The Nineteenth
Hole
This is the last issue of the Shoreline Newsletter for the year of 2007. Where did the time go?. It seems like yesterday I was begging Hideo for help in trying to get this thing out.(He came through like a Champ and rescued me, my marriage, and my sanity by taking over from this clueless technoboob). We now both pass this project over to the next generation and the administration of our new President Dick McCleod
A review of the overriding items of interest in our Newsletter during the year and that, which got the most attention, was the “Shoreline Coots” problem . It was mentioned prominently in January, February, March, April, May and June issues.. When they finally left us temporarily, the Shoreline Geese introduced us in June to their new batch of Goslings.. .We have become a combination Golf Course and Aviary.. On another note- 2007 welcomed four new members to our club. Their names were Duder, Gannon, Goelzer, and Figueroa…Finally, our annual election of Board members resulted in a new 3 year term starting in January for Messer’s Emerzian, Pilcher,Cantwell and Hyder.(no, I will not make a tie in with these old coots to our other aforementioned coots).
It’s been a gas this past year but now I must get serious about my secretarial duties in the club.. Happy Holidays to one and all..Mike A

Reduced Friday Rates
– Program Extended Through December 31: The reduced Friday rate schedule will be
extended through December 31, 2007.
This temporary pilot program began on July 1st in an effort
to bring more golfers to the course.
The first few months saw an increase in the number of rounds but not
revenue. However, the program is
beginning to “catch on” and has been extended through the end of the year.
Volunteer Program Changes: The Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed and approved the proposed changes to the complimentary golf for volunteers program on November 14, 2007. The major difference between the revised program and the current one is the limiting of the number of tee time reservations to one per week. Also, currently volunteers are issued a volunteer card at the end of a shift. The card must be activated within four weeks of receipt. Once activated, it is good for two weeks. Under the proposed policy, the card would need to be activated within two weeks of receipt and would be valid for one week thereafter. Each volunteer will receive written information concerning the changes during the first week of December. If you have any questions or would like more information, please call me, Paula Bettencourt, at 650-903-6076 or drop by my office in the Administration Building at your convenience.
13th Green: Soils import and rough shaping at #13 and #14 have been completed. The next steps are installation of irrigation and clean-up grading to prepare for hydroseeding in the upcoming weeks. The green and surrounds were sodded in November and have already begun rooting. During November, the crew sewed in the sod and filled open areas with sand. The green has also been rolled several times to work on bumpy and uneven areas. We expect to open by April 1st, possibly sooner depending on weather. A new cart path from the left of #13 green to the beginning of #14 fairway is also scheduled to be installed in the next several weeks.
