Summer has finally arrived but will soon be gone, so let’s all enjoy some fun golf for the next 2 or 3 months.
Our Club Champions have been determined and are listed elsewhere on the Web Site and in the Newsletter, congratulations to each of the winners. The Official Awards will be in presented in September at our Annual Meeting luncheon after we play golf. We also have election for new members to serve on the Board of Directors with voting prior to playing golf. If you would like to have your name on the ballot, please contact Ron Labrum or other members of the Nominating Committee. If you have some ideas that you think might improve the operations of the Club, serving as a Board member is a good venue to advance your ideas.
Our recently completed Member/Guest Tournament and Luncheon was once again fun and successful, thanks as always to Frank Frankhauser. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the coffee, muffins, golf, lunch and especially each other and will be back again next year.
Special congratulations to Jerry
Witt for making a HOLE IN ONE at hole Number 17. Way to go Jerry.
Please check the Greeter’s Table or Club Website at the end of July or beginning of August for your assigned tee time. When checking-in at Poppy Hills, you will be asked for your GHIN # and picture ID. Our tournament is Best Two Ball Foursome. Please place your completed scorecard in the Tournament Box at Shoreline on Monday August 20.
Let’s talk about one of the major assets of Shoreline Golf course. I am referring to a person often unseen by the golfing population but has a major impact in caring for and creating the golf course enhancements that make our lives more pleasant. I’m referring to Paula Bettencourt, the Assistant Community Service Director for the City of Mountain View. With that title you are sure to find Paula involved in some phase of Parks and Recreation with lots of time directed to our home away from home, namely the Shoreline Golf Links.
Paula graduated from college with a Major in English. But, while working in the business world, she discovered that her heart was in volunteer work in the parks and recreation. Therefore after much thought, it was back to college and a Masters in Science degree which opened the door for opportunities in full time employment in Park and Recreation work for municipalities. Paula now has more than 20 years of experience and splits her time between the golf course and the parks of Mountain View.
She loves working with the golfing population and is very enthusiastic about the staff that surrounds her at Shoreline. She says she is never bored and is constantly challenged to provide great customer service at the finest municipal golf course in the Bay Area. Thanks for sharing with us Paula and keep that enthusiastic manner and great smile.
And now let’s profile a rare bird, namely a new member of Shoreline Seniors Golf…Travis Duder. Travis has lived in the Bay Area most of his life, retired at age 52, and has enjoyed a hobby of racing cars in amateur as well as professional car races in many parts of the US. Travis also enjoys traveling in his RV and has driven from the Arctic to Key West but has always returned to his long-term residence in Los Altos. He is now ready to concentrate on his golf game and is available to fill-in for those foursomes needing a fourth. His phone number is 650-969-9700. Welcome to the club, Travis!!
In conclusion, always remember, no matter how badly you play, its always possible to get worse…Mike Anderson

13th Green
Renovation
The Mountain View City Council recently approved funding for the renovation of the 13th green here at Shoreline Golf Links. During the next two months, a golf course architect will be retained to work with staff to develop plans and specifications for the project. The plans and specifications will be presented to the City Council for approval, a request for bids issued and a contractor selected. We anticipate beginning construction in late September. Please be aware that a temporary green will be in place once construction begins until early spring.
Tee Rebuilding at #16
Work has begun on the project to rebuild the tees on
#16. A temporary road has been cut in on the edge of the
course to allow trucks to access the area and deposit soil. During the
next several weeks, the soil will be graded and finished to allow for new
tees. Low spots will be filled and the cart path rerouted for better
access to the tees. A temporary tee has been established. We
anticipate the project to be completed by mid September.
