Club President's Message:
Just a note to get the Club
started on its 2009 way! We have a new
slate of members to help guide our club through another successful golfing
season in 2009. The road has been
well-paved by the boards that have volunteered to take on this job before
us. They have done such an excellent job
that it should make this board's work much easier. Many of those past board
members are serving on this year's board and have always been willing to show
the newer members "how it's done", so we're looking forward to a
great year!
To get to meet with other members on a social
basis I'd recommend that you sign up with Frank Frankhauser
(the Social Chairman) for our Club's Valentine Day Dinner Dance. It's a great get-together, wonderful food
(the steaks are as big as a roast!), excellent bar and a superb music combo! If
you wish, your foursome can sign up together and Frank will put your entire
foursome at the same table.
We plan to stick pretty much with our usual
"tried and true" formula but there is one adjustment that should be
mentioned. As you probably know, when a holiday falls on a Monday we have
automatically shifted that Monday game to the following Thursday. The course contacted us a month or so ago and
advised us that they wouldn't be able to give us that Thursday spot this year
and that when a holiday falls on a Monday this year (there are only 4 such
occurrences this year) we would automatically be moved to Wednesday. After some negotiations we agreed that on the
first two Mondays that are holidays our normal "Monday group" will be
moved to Wednesday and our usual Wednesday group will play at our usual 0730
time on Thursday. On the last two
Mondays that are holidays there will be no "Club event" on Thursday. To spell it out for you, on Jan. 19th,
Monday, M. L. King holiday, of course, there is no game. That game will be
moved to Weds., Jan. 21st. The game for the smaller group, that usually
plays on Weds., will be moved to Thurs., Jan.
22nd. The same routine will occur on
President's Day, Feb. 16th. But for both
Memorial Day week, in May, and Labor Day week, in Sept., there will only be one
Club game, on Weds., in each of those weeks. With those four exceptions
our Monday - Wednesday routine remains as it has been.
One last little note. We should all "talk up" our club to
our friends and relatives if we want it to continue on in the healthy fashion
that it has. In looking at the year-end
number of rounds that we've played, from a high of 6,100 in 2003, we have
slipped year by year to a total of about 4,700 in 2008. We should all make an
effort to interest more of our senior, golfing friends to join us!
Here's to a "rewarding" golfing year
for you and a Happy & Healthy 2009!!
